A race down under
7AM, and all that we know is that Auckland is a big city! The challenge started off at Longbay. We recieved the challenge papers, but this time it was not only one piece of paper, but 3 and an envelope full of maps and other wierd things like a piece of rope. We had 21 tasks to complete in a day.
One member of each team had to kayak and find a fish. After 10 minutes on the water Hector had to return to the shore without a fish. Luckily Gerhard, one of the staff, knew that you can't catch a fish in 10 minutes and gave us a fish on the beach.
There we had to fill a 2L bottle with sea water using only a bicycle tube full of holes. The first two runs we thought it would help to carry in our mouths also, but running and laughing at the same time with salt water in your mouth does not work. So we decided to focus on the holes in the tube!
The next task was to sponser our fish to the bird lady and then play a game of volleyball!
We could complete the rest of the tasks in our own order, so we decided to go for it just from the top of the list. We were amazed once again at God's faithfulness and provision. In Takapuna we met a lady that drove us to find the tombstone of an ancient Maori man, the pumphouse and she drove us all the way up on Mnt Victoria. We went sliding down to catch a fairy to the city. We had various task to complete here eg. visit a cathedral, the museum and take a picture at a statue of a lady wearing traditional clothes.By the time we finished all of this it was almost dark and we had to go back to the Northshore to the Kauri bush. There we had to find coordinates at a parkbench by the biggest Remu tree and then we had to subtract a number from the coordinates and find another footbridge. All of this was done in the dark with a few slippery falls, a few grumpy mumbelings and a few giggles!
We ended up catching a lift with a man that was actually going in the opposite direction who took us all the way back to Torbay where we ran over the finish line first! Another blessing provided by God!
God is faithful, even in things like challenges, even in places and times that we don't think we can ask for His experties. Trust God in everything you do!!
